Stay festive in a reindeer charity run

Run Rudolph Run

Run Rudolph Run will consist of a huge group of people dressed as reindeer running happily along the river from Putney to Hammersmith Bridge.

Sound like just your cup of tea for some Christmassy fun? Well, there’s even a purpose for it.

The Duke’s Head in Putney is organising the charity fun run, which will take place on December 27th, in aid of Saint Christopher’s Fellowship – a charity based in Putney that help foster young children from all over London and assist young homeless people in the area.

Jamie Mumford, events manager at Duke's Head commented: “At this time of year it is especially hard for young people on the streets, so the charity have to work even harder than they normally do to help as many people as they can. Every penny raised for the charity is fantastic and will be put towards helping underprivileged children and finding them a home.”

The event is open to people of any age, so there will be reindeer of many shapes and sizes. It really will be a spectacle worth seeing.

The four-mile run will begin at the Duke’s Head pub in Putney, then head along the towpath by the river to Hammersmith Bridge. Here, reindeer can rehydrate at the water station before returning along the same route back to the pub.

While reflecting on the experience, which will have burned off a few mice pies, runners can enjoy a BBQ outside the Duke’s Head, along with a mulled wine.

Later, in The Rowing Club (ground floor bar in Duke’s Head) there will be the raffle draw and prizes for first, second and third place.

Then, to top it all off, all these merry reindeer will be treated to an after party with live music from Annie-Grace Smith.

Those interested in taking part in Run Rudolph Run are encouraged to contact Duke’s Head to register prior to the event, though registrations will also be accepted on the day.

The entry fee for the event is £10, which will include a glass of mulled wine after the race or mulled apple juice for kids. Participants are not obliged to secure sponsorship for their run, though it would be appreciated. Any money raised should be organised by participants themselves and passed on to one of the charity volunteers on the day.

Fancy dress is not compulsory for participants of the event; though it might look a bit weird if there was a random bloke in his joggers running with a load of reindeer. It sounds like it’s worth getting into the spirit and making the effort, whether it’s face paint or the full shebang!

Finally I get to use my red nose and antlers for something useful – I knew the day would come.
