Welcome to the 'I Love Putney' site, all about lovely Putney! I have been living in London for around four years, and when people ask me if I love the city, my answer is always the same: I love London, but most of all I love Putney!

I have started this blog to give something back to Putney and the local community by sharing everything that is great about this area. I'll be writing about all the best places to go, upcoming local events, and stories of local interest. I really hope that if you love Putney too, you will find it useful and interesting, and maybe even want to get involved!

Why Putney is the Best Part of London

As some background, I'd like to start by sharing why I think Putney is the best place to live in London. For me, a big part of it is the atmosphere. Despite being conveniently located for central London, Putney has a really relaxed feel, almost like a small town in its own right. People shop and socialise locally as well as heading to the West End, so there is a great sense of being part of a friendly community.

Some people lament that Putney doesn't have the best tube access but in fact both East Putney and Putney Bridge stations are conveniently located in Zone 2 and providing easy and speedy access to central London. Also we have the overground with fast, regular services into Waterloo. After all, from Waterloo you can get to just about anywhere conveniently, and travelling overground is always a lot nicer than the tube! Getting home from nights out in central London is also pretty easy in Putney, with our 24 hour bus service to Tottenham Court Road (the number 14, which leaves from outside Putney station).

I also love how in Putney, we are always close to something green – something of a premium in major cities! Putney Heath is a nice place to relax, with a nice woodland area and of course the beautiful Telegraph pub right in the middle.

Pubs, of course, are something we also have no shortage of here in Putney, with everything from the very traditional like the Arab Boy on Upper Richmond Road (the oldest pub in Putney), through to lively, fashionable bars like the Lost & Co or the Half Moon. Then, for cheap drinks there is always The Railway – the Wetherspoons by the station.

When it comes to shops, we have the Exchange Shopping Centre as well as Putney High Street, and I struggle to think of anything (normal) you couldn't buy here, plus we have a good choice of supermarkets. Then, for eating out, we have some of the nicest Thai restaurants in London, like Talad Thai and Tai Square, as well as traditional London style restaurants like the Popesye Steak House.

All in all, there are loads of things to love about Putney, so I am really looking forward to writing about them on this blog. Though I am the creator of this web site, actually it's belongs to Putney and its people. Please feel free to send me your thoughts and suggestions, and I will be happy to share them here.
